Luhut Panjaitan Minister who Successfully Becomes a Successful Entrepreneur

Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan is Indonesian Minister of Maritime Affairs during the 2014-2019 period President Joko Widodo. In fact, in addition to being busy in the government world, Luhut has succeeded in becoming a successful entrepreneur in various business fields and has a leading company in Indonesia.

Graduating from the Indonesian Armed Forces Academy (Akabri) in 1967 and getting the best graduates made Luhut join the Indonesian Army Special Forces Command (Kopassus). Served as First Commander of Detachment 81 and also held the position of Commander of the Special Forces Education Center (Pusdikpassus) (1992-1993), Commander of Kopassus Group 3 (1990-1992), and Commander of the Military Resort Command (Danrem) in Madiun (1993-1995).

Then it continued with being the Commander of the Infantry (Pussenif) Armament Center (1996-1997) and the Army AD’s Command and Training (Kodiklat) (1997-1998). The last rank achieved by Luhut was the Four Star General.

After a career in the military, Luhut Panjaitan was appointed as Ambassador in Singapore. He accepted this position during the B.J Administration. Habibie. He began serving as ambassador from 1999 to 2000.

B.J. Habibie was replaced by Abdurrahman Wahid. During the administration of President Abdurrahman Wahid, the position of the Minister of Industry and Trade was handed over to Luhut in 2000. Unfortunately, this position was only held for a year because Abdurrahman Wahid was impeached.

After not having a career in politics, Luhut then decided to enter the business world. In 2004 Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan founded the company by the name of Toba Sejahtera Group. As for several other companies that are included in the Toba Sejahtera Group owned by Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan.

But in 2017 Luhut sold almost 90% of the shares of Toba Sejahtera and now only has 10% of the shares. In the 2015 LHKPN report, Luhut’s wealth was recorded at Rp 660 billion.

At present Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan focuses on becoming the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia for the 2014-2019 term.
