The word “eBay” was made by Omidyar when he said that his first choice for his website, “Echobay”, was registered. Not wanting to take a second trip to Sacramento, he came with ‘eBay. “The often repeated story that eBay was founded to help trade the fiance of Omidyar’s Pez candy dispenser was made by PR managers in 1997 to attract media interest. It was revealed in Adam Cohen’s 2002 book and confirmed by eBay. The Web auction then changed its name to “eBay”. This service is free at first, but starts charging to cover the costs of internet service providers.

He believes that basically humans are good. He believes that everyone has advantages that can be given to others. In addition to running the eBay business, Omidyar treats everyone who is involved as well as possible. Omidyar has a dream that the existing sellers and buyers form a continuous world of online commerce, such as the current development of eBay.
